We are a dog friendly pub, so if you want a break on your dog walk, think of us. We will also provide water for your friend, whilst you can have a wider selection.

Engine Room Investment is continuing .

In early January 2026, we rekitted out our cold room to be a little more up to date. Though you may not see a lot of our work from in front of the bar, it was a complex job & reliant on Russ Lewis, one of our regular customers, to build us a bespoke system. The end product allows us better conditioning of our beers, greater capacity - essential for beer festivals - and more automation to remove manual handling for staff.

At the same time, we have refreshed our beer & cider boards - kindly constructed by another of our locals, Andy Ball. This allows us to put cask, cider & keg together. And to move the board contents around as we need to - a talking point in its own right!

To celebrate, Mims Davies, MP for East Grinstead, Uckfield & the Villages kindly opened both for us, in conjunction with the launch of North Sussex Camra's Ale & Cider Trail for 2026. The PDF tells the story of the day in more detail.

We are slowly working through sprucing the ER decorations, whilst not taking away what the ER is. You'll notice for example some branded signs going up or some things slowly getting moved around or moved completely. The idea is to make it a fresher, more welcoming  place for everyone, whilst not losing what the Engine Room is about & why we all support it.

As part of our spruce up, we have some bright new beer boards, making the cask, keg & cider be more or less in the same place.

How to arrange what is on there has generated an amazing array of customer views, which continues! Unfortunately, all the views seem to be different. 

The picture shows the format we are settling down on. But who knows how it could change around over coming months. Keep watching.

We've also been doing a bit of history on what the Engine Room once was in its past.

You are more than welcome to browse the attached, which we put together primarily for ourselves. The Engine Room has an important link in Sussex History. Spot the references to "Letherby & Christopher" and also the "Rolling Stones".

We have gained some shiny new steps at the front of the building.

The old melty steps are now a thing of the past - which couldn't come too soon for many. The new ones are even painted bright white so you hopefully cannot miss them!

As a small business we rely on the support of our dedicated team of staff, most of whom live in and around East Grinstead.

We support the Living Wage Foundation initiative for our team.

The Living Wage Foundation is voluntary group for businesses to align to. It is the only UK Wage rate calculated on the real cost of living. It is paid by over 16,000 UK businesses who have chosen to raise the bar from minimum legal living wage levels for their staff members.  We are proud to be part of the scheme.
